Back at the lake

We came up to the lake again yesterday. It was a beautiful day so we did some swimming and sunning. A lot of my nieces and nephews are here so we got some good hang out time with them too. There is a really big antiques show near here starting this week and Tyler and I are going to go today. I love going to this show, it's MASSIVE and so fun to look around and find things. You have to have time and patience though! I'm especially excited this year because I'm hoping to find things for our new apartment and some wedding decorations. I'll let you know if I find any goodies.

I put a few wall hangings up in my shop the other day. It made me want to get back into making them! Especially autumn themed ones.
I also had some fun with simple image transfers over the weekend. I cut up photographs of mine that I had printed on printer paper and some magazine and book pages, put mod podge on the side with the image, laid it down on the surface I was working on, used a brayer to make sure that it adhered, let it sit for a minute or two then pulled it off, revealing a cool looking transfer! Very fun.
I'm going to check in over at Creative Every Day then get ready for the antiques show. Have a great day! xo

A busy but good week

We've been getting a lot done this week, which feels great. Tyler got his wedding suit fitted and we bought his wedding ring- two big things on our list! I think I've found sweet little dresses for some of the flower girls and I hope to purchase them today. My mom is graciously working on getting a bus to shuttle people to and from the ceremony and reception. AND we signed a lease on a new apartment and will move in a couple of weeks!!!! Yay! The apartment is a lovely two bedroom in a nice old house in a great and quiet neighborhood. I'm so excited. We celebrated signing the lease with champagne and shish kabobs.
I haven't had too much time to be in the studio this week but I did get in there last night for a few hours. I finally finished wonky circles #2 and I'm digging it.

I also finished another piece, inspired by spring (even though it's summer). Like the wonky circles, I think this one as well might lead to some other similar pieces. We'll see.

I've already got a few glittery circles lined up for the next projects :)
I hope you all have a great weekend and happy Paint Party Friday!

Crunch Time

Alright, our wedding is two months from yesterday. October 3rd. It's approaching fast and this last week I've been starting to worry about all that we have yet to do to get ready. Not only are we in wedding crunch time but we are also interviewing for jobs and looking for apartments (we may have found one, fingers crossed!) We do have a wedding checklist and we are chipping away at it but I just feel overwhelmed! Anyone have any favorite tips or tricks to reduce pre wedding stress? I couldn't fall asleep last night, which is not like me, so I went into the studio for a couple of hours. I had started working on an idea over the weekend and I took it a few steps further last night. A couple pics:

Just a short post today- need to go over my wedding checklist before apartment stuff this afternoon. My mind is spinning!!

Wonky Circles #2

I'm almost finished with my 2nd wonky circles piece. I'm having fun with these, and it's getting me back into embroidering on my work which I haven't done much of in a while.

Hopefully I get to the last of the embroidery today. I've been feeling a bit under the weather this week but, so far, it feels like today will be different. Aside from not feeling well it's been a good news week. I got a part time job as an after school art teacher (which I'm very excited about), I received news that a bunch of pieces of my art are going to be published in a magazine- which is sooo thrilling, and I made another sale of note cards on Etsy! I am very grateful for all of these things. Very grateful.

A painting, start to finish

Here are pictures of a painting I made yesterday from start (well, almost) to finish. I'm feeling a series coming on...

 then I added some embroidery

then I realized it looked better upside down

And I have a frame that I think it will look perfect in. Yay for paintings that come together easily! (We all know that doesn't happen all the time!)

Rainy Day

It's a cool rainy day here, it's nice to have one of these every once in a while in the summer.  Once again,  I'll be working away at my to do list of cleaning, organizing my life, and making art :) My parent's house is still home base for Tyler and I as we job and apartment hunt. I was finally able to set up an art space here though which feels really nice. The third floor of my parent's house has two large bedrooms- one is now our bedroom and the other I am using as my art space (as well as the room that holds all of our shower gifts that we don't have a place for yet!!).  I've had some time in there the last few days and have worked on several things.

painted paper towel stamped collages
sewn and beaded pockets for my book project
and some bigger messy acrylic paintings

Our spring and summer have been full of art and travel and it's been amazing. We've been so fortunate. Now, we are starting to settle a bit and I've been feeling some of the uneasiness, nervousness, and doubts that come with moving to a new place. I know it's part of the process, part of getting our feet on the ground and getting settled and I try to remind myself of this, try to keep it in perspective and feel what I'm feeling and work through it. I know we are where we are supposed to be and I just have to remember that getting settled takes a while. I'm so glad I now have an art space where I can go to help me work through some of these feelings. I'm eager to get in there again this morning, but I've told myself I must take breaks so I can write thank you notes and do the laundry :)
